Jazz guitar forum5/27/2023 ![]() ![]() They don't have the same decay as archtops, and tend to sound more brilliant, but with a little volume roll-off ( no treble bleed here!) you can get a beautiful lush tone. I concur with that teles can be good for jazz. But of course Ibanez is also a big player here. I'd probably still go with Epiphone: I had a Broadway that was not half bad, and for a smaller box I think a Joe Pass can do a great job. ![]() if you want humbuckers, choices get wider. I tend to like Epiphones: a Casino can be a great choice with some TLC and I also liked the few Century 1966s I tried. Never tried Godins but everyone says they're great. for 40s/50s swing and be-bop, I'd go with a P90-equipped guitar. A Loar with a DeA is still a better choice in my view A Guild Savoy A-150 is also an attractive option: less acoustic tone, but still a decent one and a DeArmond pickup included in the package, and great looks. for acoustic jazz in the style of the 20s and 30s, a Loar LH-600 or 700 is hard to beat. There's some work to be done in defining "affordable" and "jazz" but here goes
